I am NOT a computer expert by any means, but here you are. Go desktop unless portability is needed. Can buy a brand new
pretty good desktop for $500, hp is my choice, and walmart is a good place to buy . Or get a refurbished one at Newegg for half or less, again hp is my choice. My office comp is a refurb , paid $200, has 1terrabyte and 8 gig ram, wireless, and works fine.

Or just build one, it is not rocket science, and lots of guides, u tube videos, and forums for building advice/help. If you build your own can probably fix it or upgrade it down the road yourself, as opposed to a brand name comp that may well have propriatary parts. But for a low end comp not really cost effective to build when can be purchased so cheaply, hard to beat $200 for a refurb. A low end comp is fine for bookkeeping, email, music, streaming video, and internet. For cad work or gaming more comp is needed along with a decent graphics card. Good luck whatever you decide.
