Cop got killed not far from here a couple weeks ago.

Story as I know it.  Young guy whacked out, fight with girlfriend night before, she calls cops next morning to say that boyfriend has a gun and is held up in his house in the country.  So guess what, cop goes out, enters house gets shot in arm, fires back, gets out to his car, then gets shot in the neck from the guy in the house while getting in the car.

Easy to say now and I am not a cop, but the first thing I thought of was what did he go to the house for with no backup!  I don't think they had any reason to think anybody was there but the armed crazy guy.  Granted I think it was a Sunday morn, prolly one county cop on duty, but one would think that a call for a guy held up in his house with a gun would warrant a call for backup from all walks of law enforcement.
