Subject: back in the saddle

nw pa

After a month of sight seeing and fishing in the Florida sun it is time to get back to reality. Heading home thursday.

Had a grand time with all the kids and grandkids at Disney, saw lots of big time farming operations. caught a few fish and traveled a lot. Many things to see in florida, nice to get away from the coast and see what goes on in the back country. did notice that wild hogs were dead along the road like deer in the north. Imagine hitting one of those at 70 mph.Just a huge grease smear on the road.

things were dry there, add the freeze they had the end of Feb. and fires are a big concern. Acres of staked tomatoes were lost. Oranges are smaller than normal and picking is slow. Many groves trying to finish picking while trimming and spraying at the same time.State took weight restrictions off the roads to help.  from the looks of some of the orange hauling rigs I'm not sure that was a good idea.

Veggies also took a big hit, lot of transplanting going on now, they may be to late to get into the market as others will start at the same time.

Saw some huge fertilizer mines down here along Rt 27. they were all digging, run their own railroad tracks to each mine and add as they go. You could see the rigs from ten miles away.

went to watch the shuttle lift off, they cancelled at the last minute and couldn't get back. still was a nice sight from cocoa beach.

All in all a good vacation, was longer than most years but had to wait for the rest of the gang to get there.

rented a house for the month at the last minute on the computer. Didn't have any idea if it would work out but the owner was a great guy, even left us his boat to use. he was a builder from Ft. Lauderdale and business was slow. They want4ed to rent out their vacation home. Think his wife was a little reluctant at first, but wants to rent it to us next year. we decided to take it.

didn't see any corn planted yet up to NC. Wheat looks good though after the recent rain.
