southern MN | Oilseeds are pretty expensive, so practical is an issue. Soybeans are not the easiest oilseed to start with. You end up with a lot of sorta-soymeal, need to have a process & outlet for that feed product.
So, a lot of maybes.
You can look in the back of any farm magazine & find several ads for doing the cooking oil conversion. There are 2 ways to do it:
1. Strain the used cooking oil like crazy, and heat the entire fuel system of your vehicle so the stuff flows, and burn it as is. SVO - Straight Vegtable Oil. It is a tinker's delight, but long term reliability issues abound.
2. Process the oil by taking the glycerins out of it, filter the heck out of it, and pretty much have a good fuel that works in most diesel engines down to about 35 degrees without any problems. BUT quality control is the thing - how careful are you out in your garage with some methanol & some white powders and 2 chemical inductors and a used barrel or 2?
