| My first question is the keyboard. Does the keyboard function? If you have either a second computer that you can plug this keyboard into, check the functionality of it - especially the up and down arrows. I would also consider getting a known good second keyboard plugged in, and see if it's arrows work.
I would also consider replacing the battery on the system board since you don't know it's age. That keeps the memory of what's what.
If the arrows aren't working now - perhaps the qwerty part of the keyboard is not as well.
