I agree that the economy is very broadly based. But, if the "leak" causes everyone to panic and run to one side the result would not be good. Human nature tells me that if you are in a canoe with someone like Madoff that is punching holes in the canoe, your first reaction should be to throw him out of the canoe, perhaps with a heavy weight attached.
