Don what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

You wrote in reference to management: “How stupid are they to negotiate deals that aren't feasible?”
The answer to that is: just as stupid as unions that make demands and negotiate deals that the union knows aren't feasible. It happens both ways.

Again you write: “I believe in the sanctity of a contract. You shouldn't sign one that you know is unworkable.”
Sometimes unions know full well a contract is not workable, but sign it anyway. What the helll as long as their getting theirs right!?!

Maybe I can agree with you Don when you write: “Perhaps the auto company needs to sell an asset and start over.”
I view the work force of a company as an asset. If that asset isn’t performing well or is costing too much to maintain then I’m all for what you propose, get rid of it and start over.
Of course when you sell your asset (the tractor) there won’t be any law suit… but let a big company try to make a change with their labor and just watch the court cases rain down like Katrina is back in town.
