Date based folder system.Top level - year, then subfolders like 2018-04-02
You might add a keyword or two after the date.I use Adobe Lightroom which does this importing for you.
Periodically make backup copies to an external drive.
I mostly keep everything recorded for a year or more, then try to thin it down a bit!
Anything which has been worth editing can be kept in the same folders but I like to duplicate that immediately to another PC.
