Thumb of Michigan | We've had a 10 cent bottle return deal for a lot of years. It helped a lot, and I'm a fan of the program. BUT it sure doesn't stop it all. Most won't risk an open container ticket while drinking and driving to get a dime for the evidence.
Another issue is that so far, non carbonated drinks have no return. Many of them along the road.
Had a neighbor complaining about the extra trash due to a road being upgraded, and hence more traffic. He was not a fan of the new road to begin with, thought he had provevn his point due to all the extra trash. I suggested he follow the garbage truck on trash day, and see if his opinion changed. Our roadsides always look worse the day after garbage pick up day. | |
