| Pofarmer, you can't just limit travel/transport to just a few options. There are far more who would travel by train if it took them directly to their final destination. In order to do so by plane, most take a flight to a hub and then switch planes to a regional service to smaller towns, etc., all of which is added cost and time to the customer. The reason trains are so successful everywhere but here is their access to far more destinations and quality of service (i.e., more convenient). If you link every city in North America of 100,000 and up (like most of Europe) customer satisfaction would definitely go up and costs down.
By the way, passenger jets do not travel 600mph...500 - 555mph | |
