Ouch! There's a bunch of inventons for aggravating squirrels and they keep coming back. I doubt the catapult hurts them any - they are so dense, like a chuck, they likely enjoy the trip. I've seen squirrels fall 15' from trees, bounce once, and run right back up the tree.
