I never got aftermarket ink cartridges to work in HP printers but I have got Brother printers now and they accepted any cheap off-brand cartridge so far. I also do not print much but dried out ink has not been a big problem yet. B&W lasers are fine, but I doubt  there is a big choice of all-in-one B&W lasers. I'd also miss the facility to print in color once in a while. Color lasers are not cheap and still can`t print out photo quality like an inkjet.

I'd suggest to have a look at Brother inkjet models.
