Quickbooks Pro is a nice program to work with.  I have my computer checks printed from Costco.com  When doing checks it is very simple for QB to do it all for me.  I rarely hand write a check.  I am doing less and less checks now also because of paying bills online also.
I do a few other sideline projects that require me to make invoices, QB works nice.
As mentioned, you can buy the fancier versions but the basic $190 QB I think would do fine.  If applicable, talk to your lender, financial planner or tax person for more help.
