Even 2GB of RAM is barely enough to run it, it's always been demanding but they incrementally make it worse by adding live feed to facebook or whatever that very few use. I have a similar age Nexus 7 can now just about cope and it only has 1GB RAM, turning off the device video recording is essential though.
The problem may be Apple will try to stop you even installing it, Android you can download and sideload anything.
