It's hard to beat Verizon coverage in the west. If you want to stay with them as your carrier, check out their specials. If you don't need the latest and greatest, going one step down can save quite a bit of money. 
I had a Galaxy S7 that was approaching 3 years old. I upgraded to an S9 for $129 with a one year contract. Compared to $900 for an S10, it seemed like a bargain and will likely be able to get into an S10 for about the same money as the 9 cost me if I wait until next year. Sold my old S7 for $75 to a firm that specializes in refurbing and reselling phones. I'm in to a new although slightly outdated phone for less than a battery replacement would be for the old S7
