Everything that comes in gets scanned and filed. If there is a paper retention requirement, I also file the paper copy. Otherwise it goes in "the burn barrel".
I rarely have to revert back to the paper copy of anything.
When I scan a document I include a tag for the 'bankers box' that the original document is in. Makes finding them easy.
With OCR most everything I scan becomes a searchable document.
I backup the file scan directories to an external hard drive and to Dropbox.
