Centre county Pennsylvania, USA | Combine attitude mapping is done using first differences of the receiver's elevation, latitude and longitude fixes. First differences are difference in those fixes for 1 second intervals. That largely removes accuracy issues. For that reason, combine attitude mapping provides much better terrain feature information than does combine elevation mapping. Attached maps show combine attitude map for Garmin 17 receiver (2005 map) and combine attitude map for JD iTC receiver (2006 map) for same field. The only difference in combine setup for harvesting was that 2005 beans were cut using 22 foot swaths and 2006 corn was shelled using 15 foot swaths. The color stripping clearly shows combine attitude. Blue bands are upslope travel and yellow bands are downslope travel. Off swath patterns show field topography as determined by combine traverses.
