| Two different things here, the Youtube video is accurate in what he is saying . The Antenna man is well known for his recommendations on over the air antennas ( what you put up in your attic etc ) . The "other " over the air is what a friend had back in the days when they would hack into Dish tv's cards and you would get all their channels until Dish would change there coding and the cat and mouse game went on for awhile . Eventually, they hauled into court the sellers of the various boxes and that was about the end of it.
Today its all done by streaming services you can purchase from various places and they work for a while ( yes, it's illegal ) .
Back to your question , it's perfectly legal to get a dish and pick up free channels. It's for people who may be too far from a tv station etc. , hills/ trees, etc blocking you that a typical antenna will not work. The free channels will not be HBO but possibly PBS , locals . | |
