Alsace 47°52'46"N 7°24'30"E | Mark, I would look for a very similar solution:
- attach the GPS antenna to a place I know that is rock solid and doesn't move.... Just take care that I have clear satelite view in all interesting directions.
- place the radio antena as high as possible so as to have the best sight view to it from wherever I am in the fields, the higher the better as I will have good reception and no trees disturbing.
One thing I would be cautious: securing that material from lightning strikes!, especially the radio antena!
