Subject: RE: router recommendations

SE Ia

I’m running routers that are over 10 years old that have gigabit wan and lan ports. I prefer to extend my wireless network with wires rather than run a mesh. I run wires between the router and remote access points in my house. During harvest I did run a remote access point to run the house network around a machine shed. Network speed tests show I’m getting close to gigabit speeds between the router and wired access points with my old routers. That said if I were to buy a new router I have my eye on tp-link routers. I want a router with a wan port and 3 or 4 lan ports. Tp-link seems to be offering great value in their routers and switches and are getting pretty good reviews for speed and software. The switches seem to have faster backplanes than most consumer quality switches.

Google, you tube, have a website to check your internet connection speed for their video services https://fast.com I also like https://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ with the connection test using speakeasy you can visually see how steady your connection is. We’ve had fiber installed to the farm this fall and now the jitter on our connection has gone down to 1ms. I think fiber has made a big difference for video.
I also use the connection test at netins.net

Edit: Sorry http://www.netins.net/speedtest test shows more info including jitter.
