S Illinois | There are lots of good Russian historians and studiers of their political history that predate the Ukraine invasion or the viewpoint seen in the last 5-10 years of western seemingly constant self criticism in the name of returning to some prior good time. They almost all to a man do not blame NATO expansion. Only the Mearsheimer wing blame NATO. What the bulk of those who’s study this issue over the years do say it is a Russian feeling of inferiority and fear of collapse. The only way forward according to Russia was for a freeze of the status quo no matter what the effect that had on sovereign nations. Basically any former Soviet satellite had to remain under the good graces of Russia or it was seen as aggression against Russia. | |
