coast of Maine
Knox County, correct ,few farms.140 years ago the exodus of all the early settlers began. They went west,no rocks, better soil and likely ancestors of many on here.Much of it was caused by a drop to near zero in the value of wool. The then more immigrants from Europe came in and bought these small farms.Orchards and chicken farms, small dairies came. Many of them quit when the government created Prohibition. Many had small orchards and with zero refrigeration ,fermented cider was their mainstay as it was shipped to Boston etc..Grandfather,who came here 100 years ago from Finland decided he would sell vinegar at his cider mill.Vinegar out front and hard cider out back.He survived ,blueberries, chickens and side work. All dairies are now gone in this county. They grow houses on all land now.Why this land had many whom wanted it for immediate development. But all these houses = people are my retail customers. This part is good.
