My guess is that the dealership may be concerned that the deal may look like title-jumping or title-skipping, which some states have cracked down on.
A dealership license ALLOWs title skipping, that's what they do, they buy cars, keep the paperwork themselves without getting title in their name, and issue the title to the seller and submit the paperwork to the state. Taking a third party vehicle in trade has been acceptable forever as far as I know. This is WI, but I can't imagine dealers in other states get title in their name on every vehicle they handle.
It's only title skipping or jumping if you don't have a dealer license. |
