Paxton, IL | I take the cable apart at the front gearbox and spin them by hand every spring when I’m getting the planter ready. I usually have a couple that are a little stiff. I’ll pull the cable out of the sheath and lube it good, then reinsert and try turning again. Several times though it ends up being the bearing in the clutch assembly getting stuff. I’ve found a source to replace those as well.
I still run into a few issues here and there, but that has really cut down on issues during the season. The first one I ever had go bad took out the plastic gearbox on the drive shaft. Had to pull the shaft to replace in season which was a real pain. So I decided I wanted to try to do whatever I could to catch something going bad before it destroyed another gearbox. | |
