Subject: What causes valves to go bad in an engine?

SW WI
I’ve got a New Holland C238 track skid steer that’s been a money pit lately. Noticed knock in the engine a couple months ago. Had service tech to check it out and figured it was valve so into their shop for repairs. Got it back and not even 10 hours of use……another knock another valve that on this one might be piston damage, also. 2100 hours on engine….not high hours in my opinion.

Tell me what you know about valve problems like this.

What frustrates me is when I got it back from the shop, it just didn’t seem to have the power of before. My wife thought it was a little more noticeable exhaust, than usual. The next day, while using bit and wondering if lack of power and exhaust was just my imagination…..it stops running after a little noticeable knocking.
