Yea.. third year in a row of crappy wheat. It hit 95 here today.. there's not enough soil moisture to germinate spring planted crops. We had snow in December and January.. Since January 8th? 0.75" (Screenshot_20240414_190214_Chrome (full).jpg) (Screenshot_20240414_181323_Chrome (full).jpg) (Screenshot_20240414_190048_Chrome (full).jpg) (48990 (full).jpeg) (Screenshot_20240414_190810_Bushel Farm (full).jpg) Attachments ---------------- Screenshot_20240414_190214_Chrome (full).jpg (230KB - 137 downloads) Screenshot_20240414_181323_Chrome (full).jpg (288KB - 144 downloads) Screenshot_20240414_190048_Chrome (full).jpg (142KB - 139 downloads) 48990 (full).jpeg (216KB - 143 downloads) Screenshot_20240414_190810_Bushel Farm (full).jpg (99KB - 134 downloads)

SC Kansas | I’m watering wheat like it’s corn in July. Dryland looks like 60-70bu straw potential.

You whine a lot about your crop conditions. Either you are FOS about your conditions, or you should quit growing certain crops where they aren’t meant to be grown. This is multiple years in a row.

What else should be grown besides wheat? Isn’t that the poorest of the poor man crops? Not like he’s throwing corn out there every year…

perryton, tx | That’s a statement from someone who knows zero about farming if I ever saw one.

North Dakota | Perma-bears just can’t stomach crop conditions turning for the worse. A multi year drought in a specific area appears to twist the dagger. So you take it out on the poor soul spilling his sweat and blood trying make a living. News flash….he gets normal moisture and he has an above average crop. That is farming. No matter your geographic location. Cut him some slack and focus on garden spots and over production to make your life more “bear”able.

CRP is an option in every state. Get some acres out of production if you can’t raise a crop on them for multiple years in a row. It’s not that hard to figure out

sc ks | I guess I'll need to plant all my land to crp this year too since I'm also too stoopid to grow good crops multiple years in a row. It ought to have plenty of fertilizer since the topdress we all applied months ago still hasn't been rained in yet.

WCMO-SWMO Area | Joe R - 4/14/2024 20:59 You whine a lot about your crop conditions. Either you are FOS about your conditions, or you should quit growing certain crops where they aren’t meant to be grown. This is multiple years in a row. The only one that is FOS on here is you...If I ran this place you would be gone...Jon has been a respected poster on here for many years but who are you..Jon lives in an area of good farm ground and can grow a good crop with a little moisture which he isnt getting...He shows pictures of his crops to back up his claims..I have been in his area many times as I had two uncles that lived out there..One farmed. I live 250 miles east of Jon and we also were in a localized dry pocket in both 2022 and 2023..About the only thing we could grow was wheat those two years..Last year was a crazy year...In 2023 my farm which I rent out had a record 90-100 bu wheat yield,6 bu corn, and 3 bu beans...2022 wasnt much better..Normal yields are wheat 50-60,corn 130-150,early beans 35-45,and double crop beans 20-30.. This year the wheat looks great as we have had 7.5 inches of moisture..However,we still havent had a rain thats ran much water since May of 2022..Crop has insurance saved everyone around here but we need to grow some good crops in 2024.

Carbondale, KS | Joe's first statement isn't wrong, his posts are always negative crop growing conditions, and bullish markets. He's been posting on here for years, you ever remember him talking about good crops cuz it's kinda escaping me at the moment.

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | On some of our wheat, I'll be better off if it completely fails and I can take the $7.34 price and have no harvest expense. More is falling into that category everyday 90 degree day we have. Not much rain in the forecast. If this week goes like the last month, we likely will receive no rain. Pretty discouraging to see it rain an inch in February which is rare and then turn back to dryness. I thought maybe our pattern had turned around. Could be another very long year.

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | Wheat is about the best crop to grow in dry conditions. I always say if you can't grow wheat, you can't grow anything. You need to live a year in Jons shoes.

West Central IA | I really enjoy how you can reach your APH every year on your carpet farm. Makes actual farming a piece of cake in your mind. I am curious what insecticide you are using on your corn to control Dust Mites? Enlighten us please.

nc ks | Complete failing is always the best money wise vs. cutting a third of a crop. It rarely happens though. Last year it finally did due to a combination of both freeze and drought. We were licking our chops at the subsidized insurance trough. Well, the subsequent crops made 0 as well. Lol

Amenia, ND | Sweet move Jon by spoon feeding the fertilizer on your wheat. Add those saved dollars to the net great job. Ps someone should take Joey’s litter box out for him.

Douglass Kansas | Kind of hard to have much positive to say about a growing crop when it has rained about 75% of average the last 3 years and is way behind in rainfall in the 4th year(In an area that normal is a little on the dry side anyway). But when irrigated corn yields in JonSCKs area were up to at least 240 last year and up to at least 220 in 2021, maybe he would have something good to say about the crop. Then again it is hard to be that positive about irrigation when the government has plans to take away the water from the farmers, just because someone thinks it will make there be more water for the birds. JonSCKs what percent of your water rights will you have left if they go through with there current plan? Here, we are just above average rainfall since Oct 1. We had 0.8" 3 weeks ago, that was the only rain we have had since early Feb. Wheat looked okayish on Saturday, most corn should come up without a rain.

Marion,ks | I am 60 miles north of Douglass KS. We had .20 3 weeks ago the wheat is hurting .It was wet Nov. -Feb horible mud for the cattle quit in Feb and now as dry as last year only differnence is more water in the ponds from the snow rain runoff from last winter. Our wheat is in trouble with the current weather forecast. I am going to start irrigating my one circle of wheat under my pivot tomorrow the rest of my dry land will just have to suffer if me miss tonights rain chance. Edited by gavogel 4/15/2024 09:26

Southeast Colorado | dogg4585 - 4/14/2024 21:51 It ought to have plenty of fertilizer since the topdress we all applied months ago still hasn't been rained in yet. Probably not. At least half of it has volatilized off.

SC Kansas | Back to back to back droughts is something else. It would be way worse if we didn’t receive precip in December. 96° yesterday, wind blowing May you never have to experience anything like it. Too wet, we had some PP in 2018/19 from being to wet. Avg would nice. Maybe rain and hail tonight.

nc ks | there's a difference between reporting and whining. Our wheat looks like crap. Have to pick and choose where we can plant corn and hit consistent moisture. We have 80 acres of wheat sw of Concordia that was our only wheat that caught .25 a week ago Saturday. Amazing what it did to the color as none of our wheat has had enough to incorporate the fert. I am sure we lost a great deal of the fert. Was put on as soon as we could get on the ground after the Jan snow melted.

That purple north of KS cuts a swath across a lot of guys that claim they never get any rain. They still may not, but I'd rather be in the purple than the very light green.

Se Nebraska | You all need the weather channel app. There is always a chance about 7 days out. Till it gets here then it misses and there is another chance in a week. It keeps you hopeful Edited by HedgerowSE 4/15/2024 20:50

They won’t get any rain, but the neighbors will. Crazy to think the rain always misses everyone by a mile. I fell for it for a couple years. Actually believed the crop conditions being reported. Believed the pics they posted were representative of a large area. Then when start connecting the dots, and consulting with others in the same areas, it did t add up and found out who was a scam and who was sincere. I’ve got a list of posters on my desk that comes in handy a lot. Edited by Joe R 4/15/2024 21:19

Douglass Kansas | The gravel roads around that time were the worst I have ever seen it as well. Rain in January then froze before drying out any, then temps just above freezeing with light rain or drizzle for about 5 days, then more rain the first part of Feb. Rain last night was really spotty got 0.9" at my house, most places that I farm got less than 1/2 inch.

Southeast Colorado | I always figured that rain that's always 7 days out is to keep you from heading out to the tree with a rope.
