General common sense is the best antivirus/malware protection. Don't use the same password for everything. Don't engage in software piracy or other dubious online activity will limit exposure. If an email looks suspicious, don't click links.

For Windows users, keyboard command ctrl+shift+esc opens system monitor to view processes and startup applications - if something suspicious is running, consult a trusted pc fixer guy. Malwarebytes used to be a good system scanner if you had concern about something.

Cloudflare offers a DNS protocol that specifically blocks malware (1.1.1.2) and/or malware+adult (1.1.1.3) content. Link - https://blog.cloudflare.com/introducing-1-1-1-1-for-families Need to have some basic knowledge of router/networking setup.

If I understand the dust up, Shimmy didn't have a virus infected PC, he posted on a public forum and a bad actor tried with some success to take down the entire agtalk website. This is next level stuff, over and above hijacking a single computer.
