| Thinking about a below ground or below house type tornado shelter. If a really strong tornado hit, it's not just the wind speed it's also the debris that can slam into an above ground shelter and destroy it.
Was looking at a below ground shelter where the builder dug it out in a sunroom and poured the concrete shelter there, Had a sturdy vault like lid or door on top. Only real concern I'd have is the potential to get trapped inside should heavy storm debris fall or land on the entry/exit while you are sheltering inside. But that's minor in some cases as long as help arrives soon to get you out.
