Funny, all us Yankees say it's a porcupine, but three people from KS say it's a packrat. I didn't think you'd have porcupines in TX, but google says you do, so who knows. Might be able to tell by the size of teeth marks though.

Reminds me of one spring I saw so many roadkill porcupines along a stretch of road I figured I'd pick up a fresh one to show off to some little kids. Well the next one was too flat and gory, then I stopped for one that was too ripe, then all the rest that I slowed down for turned out to be clumps of dead grass scraped up by the snowplows, so maybe it wasn't such a bad year for them after all?
