Hmmmm, rye. Kill it in the spring whenever you can. I've also planted into 6 foot standing rye with little problems. The only way you could see the marker track was where the rye was standing vs where the marker leaned it over. Beleive it or not, with a 30" row planter, this was no problem. Beans love it and weed control is good in the cover. If you are going to corn, I either wouldn't use rye, or would burn it down very, very small. In a week of wet weather it can get away from you.
