Mike,
I am a new user to APEX, just started using it last week(dealer loaded the 2.0 beta version) They said that it is a lot faster as far as downloads, etc... You shouldn't need a dedicated computer. I would agree, just get a laptop with a lot of memory so you can utilize it for other stuff that comes along.
