Subject: N Loss from tilling soys -not

Getting to the question you actually asked, I think your concern was whether the N credit for soys would be reduced by tillage. In actual fact, the N credit isn't from extra N left over from the soys - they are actually better scavengers for N than corn. The difference in N requirements of the next crop is because soys leave less high carbon residue behind, so there is less immobilization of the N. Fall tillage should not make any difference to this process.

The other points brought up about soil loss and costs in fuel and equipment make sense. You need to measure on your own farm what program makes the most sense.
