The initial reason for going to the original coupler was to eliminate cross contamination of the various grades of hydraulic oil at that time.
The ISO coupler was used because the old Deere coupler would not allow enough oil flow for the day's use of larger cylinders plus the cross contamination problem no longer existed since all manufacturers agreed within reason to use the same specification of oil.
