Subject: Early Hay Stackers and Round Balers

Big Country Area, area in and around Abilene TX
The Hesston Stakhand thread below got me think about the many various early models of attempts at hay stacking and round baling.

There is one combination hay stacker/flat round bale machine that I remember a little about.

I do not remember the company's name at the moment, but the machines were yellow. The bale or stack was built, on a round floor. It had a sort of a huge upright discharge from the hay pickup table that had a 45 deg turn downward to the floor. It had a sort of the rotating clyinder with solid ends on it, and 6 or 8 metal bars from one end to the other end.

I have never seen one the machines in operation. Either the round floor rotated or the discharge tube moved around the round floor while the hay flow was discharged from the hay discharge chute.

It seemed like you nearly had to use the baler to move the round flat stack to another location. They were not used for very many years from what I can tell.
