Subject: RE: Early Hay Stackers and Round Balers

NE SD

Nice to see some threads on here about stuff that I'm somewhat familiar with. Had a neighbor that had one of those Haybusters. I believe they were called a "Stak-Eze"?? I never did see it run although dad says the stacks were a pleasure to haul. He sure has some interesting stories to tell after owning a few stack mover trucks.

Everyone in my area always had Hesston Stackhands. There were a few JD's, but for the most part 60 sized Hesstons. In the '80s dad and my uncle bought Owattona round balers. I ran the Hesston 60A a few times before we sold it in '98. It worked well in Alfalfa. We found some lucky guy from ND that gave us $6000 for it and we weren't all that sad to see it go. There were a couple that went on farm sales here in '99 and '01 cheap....real cheap for as good of condition as they were. To the tune of $1800 or so. Cousin's who live a mile away still run a 60A today although they are warming up to round bales. Neighbor that lives a half mile away recently parked his 60A for what I believe to be a 60B, but I've never seen it close up. He and his daughter are so stubborn I can't imagine he would ever do anything different. He was the one who bought a brand spankin new JD hoe drill rather than an 1850 ten years after no-till had been established as an excellent practice in the area, and then pi$$ed and moaned when he couldn't get anything for it on trade.
