After moving files to a new computer lots of times, I find its a good time to "clean out junk" that you kept and never look at.
The USB is good, newer computers can use a USB3.0 which is faster to transfer data than the older USB 2.0 which is probably on the old computer.
The 3.0 works on either, but is faster on the new machine.
