Another thing, you can get one of several FREE programs to "CLONE" your hard drive. This includes the operating system. So if your drive pukes, you can install the "clone" and go. Its not automatic, but its fairly simple. Also easiest if you have an external HD to do this with.
My usual computer (the one I'm using right now) is a HP refurbished model. It was cheap enough and has served me well. Lately at times the internal hard drive makes a "bad" sound. I think the bearings may be going out. It will sound bad for a while and then the ball bearings must get spread out and it sounds fine again. I expect it to fail fairly soon. I have some external drives I can work with. I might be able to swap an internal hard drive from another older computer but would just like it to be a plug & play type swap without a bunch of setting changes.
What free program would you suggest? I would think I could get it to boot off of an external HD? |
