| I had to make that decision years ago and the line shaft turbine was quite a bit cheaper than the submersible because I needed to buy a big generator to attach to the engine to run the submersible. The line shaft only needed a right angle gearbox and a clutch on the engine. The well driller warned me that the line shaft turbine was specially built for my well and a replacement would have to be built and shipped from TX. The submersible was more of an off the shelf item and a replacement would be more readily available. I'd guess 90+ % of new wells use a submersible pump here. In hindsight I should have sucked it up and paid what the power company was asking to run 3 phase to the well. | |
