Yes, but most of us dont have "top secret" documents or emails on our phones. In those cases Bleachbit or a Stanley hammer are the best methods of making sure no one gains access to your data. For the majority of us just a simple factory reset will keep our bank data safe from curious people, maybe not from a determined thief though.

The main reason for a reset is to remove any password protection you may have installed on the phone.
