The company techs are telling you their computer needs to sit directly on the internet? There must be more to the story, or they're smoking something in the server room.

Golfnut has given good advice. Just get a network switch with enough ports for what you need....no need to complicate things. I do NOT recommend daisy-chaining routers (unless you know how to properly configure them), because this could legitimately create problems by translating addresses too many times. But if you currently have things working 99% of the time, I'd say you're in good shape.
