First I don't have a 942...I have a 945. They use 942's in the south for shooting rice levees. set on a tripod,turn on, let it auto level , and go shoot, hard to mess up, just the way we like it. There may be other uses, but that is one of them.

I think the 942 should do 1000', like a 945...will do more with some loss of accuracy.
