Subject: Thoughts on online bidders

Boone, Iowa

I have attended a few land auctions this winter.  Some have live bidders, along with online bidders.  I get that some bidders do not want to reveal themselves, thinking they may get the bid ran up on them or other reasons.  My question is what keeps the online bidding honest?  Is there anything preventing a ghost bidder or someone that has been setup to run the bid up for the seller and/or the auctioneer?  I know some auctions have a screen that shows the online bids and some auctions have a camera that lets the online bidders see the live bidders.  Can a live bidder request a copy of the online bidding or can an online bidder request the bids, so they can see what live or other online bidders were doing?  What are your thoughts?
