MB, Canada | I'm a climate change believer, but even I'm jaded enough that at this point the only facts I believe are that total atmospheric carbon is extremely high compared to any historical level and that humans are largely responsible for that. Beyond those two bits I've kind of lost faith in the numbers.
For example, it was just reported that Alberta's tar sands may be emitting 19x to 63x (yes, times, not per cent) more than previously thought. Just for interests sake, if we take the 63x number and do a recalculation as a per cent of Canada's total emissions, the new tar sands number lowers beef methane emissions from 3.3% of Canada's total emissions to 0.5% of Canada's total emissions.
I just can't see how we're supposed to have a mature conversation about this issue when our numbers are so flimsy. | |
