Everyone that says tighten web are 100% correct. It needs to be tighter than you think. Especially on the older ones with the smaller sprockets and shaft. Also the center sprockets holder bends toward the front of spreader compounding the issues. When I put new web and sprockets in mine I couldn’t believe how much the center was bent. Design flaws that are stated above. I would tighten web daily. No slack or droop at all on chain. I basically would tighten until I couldn’t turn adjusters easily.
