NW MN | Think these May born calves are putting on 1.6lbs a day? They have free choice 1st crop alfalfa/grass and get about 3.8lbs/hd whole corn (4 buckets). Never tested my hay probably 80% bloom. Should I test? Is all that necessary to get a rough idea on gain?
My rough estimate is I am adding $4k in value the next 30 days.
31 calves gaining 50lbs a day at ~ $2.75 Minus the hay and cheap corn. I figure they weigh about 500lb across the board.
