Those imports aren’t going into steak or other muscle cuts. They get mixed with
50+% of the fed cattle here that don’t make grade. That gets mixed with cow beef as well.
The tallow?? That gets mixed with the grass feds, etc. if they don’t, the consumer will not eat it a second time. 95% of grass fed is grind— had a packer tell me once in a face to face in Colorado— the most valuable part of an overfed mid choice steer was the tallow to mix with the bottom half.
Majority of imports come from Canada and Mexico. I see a bit from other places.
