If the temp stays cold enough to freeze the ground down a few inches the frost heave will snap roots and kill the plant. If the ground does not freeze the plants will usually come back depending on the age of the plant. Four year old alfalfa isn’t as tough as young alfalfa. We are facing the same problem.
