NW IA | Personally I would never mix clover in a drill with small grain. If you have a separate attachment on your drill or can spread it on top with an end-gate seeder or Herd seeder etc. you will have a far more consistent stand. Germination will be better with the clover on top and dragged and or culti-packed in.
Also look at the option of Nitrogen alfalfa and a better quality red clover from Albert Lea Seed or any other source. I have mixed it with medium red and got a really nice higher value cutting in the fall. Disclaimer- last year was a fail, either the hoppers got it all or dry conditions over winter caused a herbicide carry over issue, or a combination of both. | |
