NW IA | I have an absolute rule of no manure on established hay fields or fields destined for new seeding in the next calendar year.
Unnecessary traffic, weed potential, smothering plants, interfering with cutting.
I used to spread wet manure from free stalls after baling because it was messy stuff to stock-pile; but nothing good ever came of it. The worst was when I spread hog poo and the hay, no matter how perfectly put up, had to be fed to heifers because the milking herd would refuse to take a bite.
Get a soil test, apply dry fertilizer (and for good measure, arrange for it to rain the evening after*) | |
