We've never worried about cold water on alfalfa seed. I'd say a very hard frost is the bigger concern. We usually end up planting alfalfa and pasture seeding in early April. (About 3 weeks before folks go at corn.) I think the weather is supposed to cool down over the next month but I would guess we are past any major arctic outbreaks.
